An ex-Henefer mayor accused of driving under the influence of alcohol pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
James A. Rees, 48, was arrested Aug. 3 and booked into the Summit County jail, charging documents state.
Rees pleaded guilty Oct. 14 to impaired driving and was ordered to pay a fine of about $982. He was not required by the judge to serve 60 days in jail for the misdemeanor offense.
Rees was the mayor of Henefer from 2002 to 2005. Henefer is situated at the northwestern edge of Summit County and boasts a population of nearly 700 people.
The level of alcohol in Rees’ blood was .10 at the time of his arrest, a Summit County prosecutor said. The legal limit for alcohol while driving in Utah is .08 grams.
Rees was stopped in North Summit near the intersection of Interstates 80 and 84 near Echo, the prosecutor said.
An alleged lane violation was likely the reason Rees was stopped, prosecutor Joy Natale said.
