Nick Badami, the patriarch of Park City Mountain Resort and a ski-industry giant, died on Wednesday in Arizona, the resort said, a loss of one of the leaders who shaped Park City into an internationally known ski destination.
He was 87 years old.
Badami has long been credited with bolstering Park City’s ski-racing reputation, bringing World Cup races to PCMR in the 1980s and figuring highly in Utah’s efforts to host a Winter Olympics.
"He was a great man. He came to Park City, he turned the ski area around," Brad Olch, a former mayor of Park City, said, calling Badami a "great father figure" for many people in Park City.
Funeral arrangements have not been finalized.
