Kathleen Carricaburu, exhibition director for the Kimball Art Center, left her post late last week. She is the fourth staff employee, out of 11, to make her exit in a month.
Carricaburu has 15 years of experience managing exhibits, six of which were spent at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts in Salt Lake City. She had been employed at the Kimball for six months overseeing the center’s Badami, Garage and Main galleries. Her resignation is effective immediately.
"I just quit for professional and philosophic reasons about the direction of the exhibit area," she told the Park Record.
Carricaburu’s departure follows Pam Crowe-Weisberg’s resignation to take care of ailing family members on March 20. Later, the organization’s events director also resigned. On March 24, an announcement explained that Susan Thomas, the organization’s public relations director, would be laidoff and her previous responsibilities assimilated into other positions at the center.
Calls made to Kimball Art Center’s board chairman and acting interim director, Bruce Larrabee, at his business, Artworks, and at the center, were not returned immediately for comment.
In an interview in the first week in April, he explained, "We’re just trying to make sure things are running smoothly and get up to speed that’s my biggest challenge, not settling ruffled feathers anymore We’re moving forward."
