The Utah Symphony’s violinist, Brant Bayless will spend the day at Deer Valley Resort this Sunday, March 30, first on skis, then with a violin beneath his chin, entertaining après ski at the Goldner Hirsch Restaurant.
"This is kind of a new for me playing a concert après ski," he confesses. "I am, an avid skier, though, so I will be skiing in the morning."
Beginning at 3:30 p.m., guests are invited for beverages and appetizers. At 4: 30 p.m., the performance is scheduled to begin, featuring a string quartet of Utah Sympohny members: Bayless on violin, David Porter on violin, David Langr on violin and John Eckstein on cello. At 5:30 p.m., more food will be served and guests are invited to mingle.
Bayless, who has played with the Utah Symphony for seven years, says the musicians will choose upbeat works from composers like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig von Beethoven and Joseph Hyden that will complement the casual atmosphere of ski boots and parkas.
"People typically think of classical music as tuxedo-only and serious, but you know, we’re four musicians that love to ski and if we can bring a little energy and lightness and beautiful music at the same time to an après ski party, it would be a great thing for us."
