Lawmen burst through the door of an Old Town residence on Tuesday, setting off a concussion grenade as they arrested two men on narcotics charges, the authorities say.
Arrested were:
Omar Romero Flores, 28, who faces two counts of a distribution of a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute.
Nahun Cortes-Quintana, 24, who faces eight counts, including one charge of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute and a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Five counts of forged documents and a count of driving on a denied license were also leveled against Cortes-Quintana.
Both are being held at the Summit County Jail without bail. They are Mexicans in the U.S. illegally, according to the Police Department. Formal charges had not been filed by Thursday afternoon. Prosecutors continue to screen the cases and charges may be formalized Friday, the Summit County Attorney’s Office says.
The police and Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds say investigators found a half a pound of cocaine, fake Social Security cards, false identifications, between $6,000 and $7,000 in cash and scales used to measure narcotics at the residence, 1060 Woodside Ave, unit #3. At least one of the suspects lived at the address.
Edmunds says the cocaine has a street value of between $10,000 and $12,000.
Edmunds says members of a drug task force at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday rammed through the door and set off the concussion grenade, which emits a loud noise and a flash of light.
“It was an unbelievable arrest,” the sheriff says.
