The Utah Music Teachers Association’s local chapter is looking for some members. The organization, which is dedicated to providing a network of communication and continuing education for professional music teachers has held meetings in Park City for about a year, according to chapter president Mike Vermillion.
He said the class has been primarily oriented toward piano teachers, but that the organization is always looking for new members of any musical stripe.
“Any music teacher in general is welcome,” said Vermillion.
Part of the National Music Teachers Association, Vermillion said the Park City chapter keeps a fairly simple schedule with meetings the first Friday of each month.
“We just meet once a month at noon and we’ll have a lecture on something musical,” he said.
The lectures might focus on a certain piece of music or a musician something like Bach or Handel.
So far, Vermillion said that most of the chapter’s meetings have attracted between four and five participants, but he said the group needs some new participants to add some diversity and attract speakers.
Currently, he added, most of the group’s speakers come from its members. However, Vermillion said he’d like to change that.
“The more members we have in Park City, the more money we raise, and the more out-of-town lectures can come,” he said.
