Those could be part of a real estate portfolio amassed by people playing the Park City edition of Monopoly.

In an ironic twist to the Park City edition of the game, two tracts of beloved City Hall-owned open space are on the board. The strategy of Monopoly is to acquire properties and then develop them with houses and hotels.

The board includes the McPolin Barn and Round Valley. The municipal government acquired the McPolin Barn years ago in an early but important purchase for conservation purposes. The barn is the anchor of an expansive piece of open space. City Hall has amassed significant open space in Round Valley, stretching between the edge of Park Meadows and Quinn’s Junction, through acquisitions over time.

The conservation acquisitions of the McPolin Farm and in Round Valley were designed to block development in the locations, making the inclusion of the two on the Monopoly board ironic.

The Round Valley spot on the board is priced at 280 in Monopoly money. Once someone acquires the spot, houses each cost 150 in Monopoly money while a hotel costs another 150 once there are four houses at the location.

The McPolin Barn board spot costs 60 in Monopoly money. Houses are set at 50 apiece in Monopoly money with a hotel priced at 50 in Monopoly money with four houses there.

City Hall said it was not involved in the creation of the Park City edition of Monopoly, including the spots on the board with locations under municipal ownership. Miners Hospital, also owned by City Hall, is on the board as well and priced at 60 in Monopoly money. It is one of the most prominent historic buildings in Park City.

The McPolin Farm and iconic white barn provide a picturesque entry to Park City. It remains one of the especially notable conservation purchases decades after City Hall acquired the acreage. Cross-country skiers, hikers and bicyclists often are seen on the land, and it has long provided a backdrop for artists and photographers.

Round Valley is a popular recreation area throughout the year, with hikers and bicyclists enjoying the land in the summer and fall and cross-country skiers and snowshoers venturing onto the acreage in the winter.

The City Hall open space program has won widespread support from Parkites since it was launched decades ago. Voters inside Park City have repeatedly authorized ballot measures raising property taxes to fund acquisitions of open space. The level of support is a rarity in a community that is oftentimes fractured. The McPolin Farm and Round Valley are two of the prized tracts of land, alongside places like Bonanza Flat and Treasure.

Top Trumps USA, the firm that holds a license to create different versions of the Monopoly board, released the Park City edition on Thursday during an event at the St. Regis Deer Valley. The board includes a list of well-known Park City-area businesses and not-for-profit organizations.

Correction: Park City and the Lake Tahoe region are the ski destinations with Monopoly editions dating to after a firm called Top Trumps USA was granted exclusive rights from Hasbro to create community editions of the board game. Other ski destinations had editions before then. A previous version of this article and the one printed in the Feb. 3 edition of The Park Record misstated the overall list of ski destinations featured in an edition of Monopoly.

But the St. Regis Deer Valley will set someone back 400 in Monopoly money.

The Park City edition of the famous board game was released on Thursday evening during an event at St. Regis Deer Valley that was a visual showcase for the Monopoly brand as well as the Park City edition. Mr. Monopoly worked the room while representatives of the businesses and other locations with spaces on the board posed for photographs with their oversized cards and a giant version of the Park City board. A stack of unopened games was on display.

The St. Regis Deer Valley occupies the most expensive location on the board. It is the equivalent of the coveted Boardwalk spot on the original game, which is based on streets and locations in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The least expensive of the locations are Miners Hospital and the McPolin Barn, each priced at 60 in Monopoly money.

“Boardwalk is a premier property in Monopoly, and we felt a good position on the board for St. Regis Deer Valley,” said Tyler Mugford, the general manager of the hotel, adding it “just made sense to be in that spot.”

Top Trumps USA, which holds a license to manufacture different versions of Monopoly games, said it received 1,500 emails providing input about the entries for the board. The company considered 150 spots for inclusion before whittling the field to the final board. The businesses and organizations on the board were required to pay for inclusion through a sponsorship model. Top Trumps USA did not provide details regarding dollar figures. The firm manufactured 10,000 units of the Park City edition during the first print run.

“We’ve spent months creating a portrayal of the area and incorporated important feedback from locals to truly make this a fun and engaging game for Park City residents and visitors,” Aaron Green, a Top Trumps USA representative who was in attendance on Thursday, said in a prepared statement, adding the Park City edition of Monopoly celebrates “everything this beloved mountain town has to offer, from its world-renowned recreational and natural gems to its artistic culture, and its historic and charming downtown landmarks.”

Green said Park City attracts visitors from across the United States as well as an international clientele.

The unveiling of the board followed nine months after Top Trumps USA announced the Park City edition during an event on Main Street last spring that included an appearance of Mr. Monopoly and several oversized Monopoly cards with Park City-centric locations. The cards on display in the spring were for publicity purposes, and at the time at least two identified significant names in Park City — Deer Valley Resort and the Sundance Film Festival — that were ultimately not included on the final board revealed on Thursday.

The suggested retail price is $39.99 and the game is available at several Park City-area retailers, including Java Cow and J.W. Allen & Sons Toys and Candy.
