Another year, another U.S. Speedskating roster made for Parkite Casey Dawson. Dawson was named to the 2024-25 long-track team for the sixth-straight year June 4, joining 18 other men’s and women’s athletes.
The team trains out of the Utah Olympic Oval, located in Kearns. Their coaches include Ryan Shimabukuro, Gabriel Girard and Matt Kooreman.
Being named to the team is all-important because of the resources Dawson and his teammates will be given. U.S. national team skaters are given high-performance staff to work with and Olympic ice to train on, even in the summer.
Each earned their positions due to their performance in the 2023-24 season. Dawson and his teammates finished atop the ISU (International Skating Union) team pursuit standings for the season for the third year running — Dawson ninth in long distance and 40th in the 1500m category.
Dawson’s team pursuit teammates were Ethan Cepuran and Emery Lehman. Both Cepuran and Lehman will be on the 2024-25 U.S. team.
In January, Dawson, Cepuran and Lehman set the world record in the team pursuit at the Olympic Oval during a World Cup competition.
Dawson won a bronze medal at the 2022 Beijing Games in team pursuit.
Dawson is working up toward the all-important 2025-26 season, which will include the 2026 Milano Cortina Games. While he is a team pursuit and distance specialist, Dawson has a shot for his improving individual results to land him more starts at those Games.
The 2024-25 World Cup season will likely begin in November overseas. However, a calendar has not yet released. Follow the ISU’s website for any further updates.
