New and existing works are eligible. Pieces must be ready to install and sustainable outdoors without maintenance for one year. Transportation is the responsibility of the artist. Works that exhibit a Summit County "sense of place" are encouraged, but not required.

Next year the City of Coalville will purchase one piece of sculpture (up to $1,500) out of all the accepted entries displayed in Coalville for this year's exhibit period.

The Summit County Board of Commissioners created the Summit County Public Art Program and Advisory Board in April, 2008. Six public art sculptures will compete for the People's Choice Award in Coalville when online and paper ballot voting is conducted through April 15.

The City has pledged up to $3,500 to purchase one of the sculptures, which have been displayed on Main Street as part of the Summit County Artscape public art gallery.

Residents can cast their vote by visiting www.summitcounty.org/publicart .

Paper ballots are at Coalville City Hall and the County Courthouse in Coalville. There is one vote per person.

The artworks are as follows:

  • "Voyager" by Park City High School student Zane DeKoff is an airplane fashioned from metal.
  • "Balance" by Midway artist Keith Lundskog is constructed of a heavy stone balancing on a stressed and dented steel cone.
  • "Fawn" by Salt Lake artist Kristi Mercer is a 34-inch fawn made of hand wrought steel.
  • "Horse of Engine" by Albert Neeley is a horse whose legs are created from pistons and whose body includes the engine and timing belt.
  • "Flower" by Hooper artist Milt Neeley is an oversized metal sunflower.
  • "Guardians" by Dan Toone is a set of three rust patina steel columns with stainless steel wrap.

    Coalville artist Cody Keetch won the "People's Choice Award" last year with "Metal Mulley," a sculpture made of lots of small individually hand hammered pieces of mild steel and welded together into the shape of a monster buck.

    There are two openings on the Summit County Board of Commissioners created the Summit County Public Art Program and Advisory Board in April, 2008.

    The volunteer Board of nine Summit County residents makes recommendations to the County Council and County Manager regarding public art and funding opportunities.

    Renovation of the Summit County Public Health Building, 82 N. 50 East, in Coalville was recently completed and now houses a new public library on the north end of the building and a public health department on the south end.

    The Summit County Public Art Advisory Board has identified three areas of the library for artwork, including the interior south wall in the library entry, the interior rafters, and the "teen corner" in the northwest interior of the library.

    The project budget has been set at $4,000. All interested artists are encouraged to download the RFP for further project details, including a timeline and site photographs.

    "The Summit County Public Art Advisory Board is thrilled to be working with the Library Committee to secure pieces that will complement the design of the new Coalville Library," says Jenny Dorsey, Summit County Public Art Advisory Board Chair.
