My name is Bob Sertner, and I am thrilled to share why I am running for Park City Council. As many of you already know, I am a television producer with a long track record for solving complex issues, and a deep love for this incredible community. 

It’s time for Park City to revisit our long-term vision and create a comprehensive plan to navigate our future. I have a history of focusing on the big picture while getting things done, and I am committed to preserving our values, strengthening our bonds, and ensuring that Park City remains the place we know and love.

My partner Steve and I fell in love with Park City many years ago, and we have been blessed to call it our home for over two decades. Our two children have loved every minute we’ve spent here, and we want nothing more than to preserve the magic of this remarkable place for future generations. I am committed to keeping Park City Park City as an amazing place for all of our kids and their kids to enjoy.

I have produced over $1.3 billion of scripted television, and I have a reputation for delivering on extremely challenging projects. I always focus on the big picture, find common ground, and get results, which has earned me the nickname “The Fixer.”  I don’t believe Park City needs to be “fixed,” but I do believe we need someone who can take a 30,000-foot viewpoint, find solutions that work for all parties, and help drive us toward progress. 

Throughout my life I have also been a passionate advocate for equality and fairness, including the fights for same-sex marriage and adoption rights.  I have experienced firsthand the power of collaboration to solve problems, and I want to continue on that same path here in Park City, by working with all of you. 

The biggest challenge facing our city today is a tsunami of growth and development.  We must get ahead of this wave before it overwhelms us, or before the state steps in to handle it for us. Instead of relying on project-by-project development, I believe we need to establish a comprehensive long-term planning framework, especially for transportation and housing, that ensures a resilient, inclusive, and vibrant future for Park City. 

We are currently a Tale of Two Park Cities: historic and new, young and old, wealthy and working class, full-time residents and resort visitors. If Park City were a business, I’d say it’s time to take a look at our mission statement to review our goals and prioritize who we are as a community. The issues confronting us today are the exact same issues we were talking about twenty years ago, so we need to work even harder to find common ground and move beyond analysis paralysis. To quote Vision 2020: let’s be more aggressive about it, and let’s embrace bold action!

For the residents of Park City: this is an exciting opportunity for us to build an even better future. Let’s solve these complex puzzles and address the issues head-on. I am ready to bring my extensive business experience, diverse life experience, and fresh perspective to the City Council. But I cannot do it without your support.

On Sept. 5, I ask for your vote, not just for me, but for the future of Park City. Together, let’s embrace a path of unity, bold action, and long-term vision. I am eager to serve you and this incredible community. Let’s work hand in hand to make Park City the best it can be.
