‘Latter-day Saint History: 101’ Lecture
The Park City Museum will present a free lecture, “Latter-day Saint History 101: Prophets, Pilgrims, and Pioneers” by Dr. Matt Grow at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, at the Education and Collections Center, 2079 Sidewinder Drive. This presentation will trace the early history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from its founding in 1830 through the early settlement of Utah in the late 1840s and 1850s. Grow will discuss the role of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, the practice of converts gathering together in communities, and the journey to the Salt Lake Valley. Sips n’ Stories Book Club
The Summit County Library’s Sips n’ Stories Book Club will participate in a Zoom drink and book discussion at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The event, for ages 21 and older, will include making an Old Maid cocktail and discussing Nita Prose’s “The Maid.” The book, a “Clue”-like mystery, explores what it means to be the same as everyone else and yet entirely different — and reveals that all mysteries can be solved through connection to the human heart. Park City Film: ‘Backside’
Park City Film and the Park City Library will host a free screening of Raúl O. Paz-Pastrana’s “Backside,” not rated, at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Park City Library’s Jim Santy Auditorium, 1255 Park Ave. “Backside,” set during racing season at Churchill Downs’ barns in Louisville, Kentucky, offers a glimpse into the lives of immigrant workers who begin their days at 2 a.m., seven days a week, year-round, to care for some of the world’s most prized racehorses. The screening, presented in Spanish and English with bilingual subtitles, is part of Park City Film’s Cine en Español Series presented with Park City Library and supported with grant funding from Park City Municipal. ‘Something Rotten Jr.’
The Egyptian Theatre’s YouTheatre will present “Something Rotten Jr.” at 5 p.m. on Friday and at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Randy Barton Black Box Theatre 330 Main St. (downstairs). The musical follows playwrights — brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom — as they toil to find success in live theater in England while competing with William Shakespeare in the year 1595.
