A Newpark man was arrested for theft last week after fleeing from Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies after a short pursuit.
Law enforcement was dispatched to a Kimball Junction grocery store on Sept. 2 for a theft report that had just occurred, according to a report from the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies observed the suspect’s vehicle in the Newpark area, parked at a residence.
Deputies found the man at his home, but he refused to come to the door. He also closed all of the windows and blinds.
The man later left his home, and deputies found him near S.R. 224. He fled on foot, and deputies pursued him. He was eventually arrested and faces several charges including failure to stop at the command of law enforcement and obstruction of justice.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to several other calls between Monday, Sept. 2, and Sunday, Sept. 8, including reports of drunk driving, domestic violence and other traffic violations.
Saturday, Sept. 7
Summit County Search and Rescue assisted the South Summit Fire District with a report of an injured woman near the Oakcrest Campground. The woman was said to have a foot injury and in need of transport. Volunteers arrived and assisted the woman off the mountain.
Deputies were dispatched to a Silver Summit residence for an unwanted person. When deputies arrived, they made contact with a man who was heavily intoxicated and who had been operating a vehicle. A DUI investigation was conducted, and the man displayed several signs of impairment. He was arrested under suspicion of drunk driving.
Friday, Sept. 6
Deputies were dispatched to Kimball Junction for a report of an unconscious man lying face down in front of a fast food restaurant. The man was determined to be extremely intoxicated. The man’s wife was located nearby. She displayed indicators that she was a victim of domestic abuse. The man was medically cleared and placed under arrest.
Thursday, Sept. 5
The Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol focused on traffic enforcement near Silver Spur Drive in Jeremy Ranch. They later moved to Trailside Elementary School for additional enforcement there.
Wednesday, Sept. 4
Mounted Patrol monitored the 910 Cattle Ranch property in Jeremy Ranch. There was nothing of concern noted and no evidence of trespassing, poaching or criminal mischief.
Tuesday, Sept. 3
A vehicle with its left rear tail light out was stopped by deputies in Jeremy Ranch near the Interstate 80 westbound on ramp. Deputies stopped the car and noticed the driver was slurring his speech and smelled strongly of alcohol. He performed poorly on a standardized field sobriety test and was arrested for suspected DUI.
Monday, Sept. 2
Deputies patrolling near Olympic Parkway observed a vehicle parked at Run-A-Muk dog park after hours. They made contact with the driver, who was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The man was booked into the Summit County Jail on numerous drug charges.
