A 50-year-old Heber City man was killed in an incident at a worksite over the weekend.
Herald “Buck” Parker was crushed by a crane he was operating at a house in the Promontory Ranch area that was under construction.
The 911 call came in at 8:12 a.m. on Saturday, according to Summit County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Felicia Sotelo. Several people were on site to report the incident. Deputies and emergency medical services were then dispatched to Pinnacle Sky Loop.
Parker was pronounced dead upon their arrival. Law enforcement called for heavy rescue to assist with extricating the deceased. The Utah Division of Aeronautics responded with its unmanned aircraft systems to help move the equipment.
Sotelo said the worksite was likely active, but she was unable to provide more information about the incident. Deputies believe it was not malicious.
“At this time, it looks like a really unfortunate accident,” Sotelo said.
It is unclear if the home was occupied at the time. The construction site was shut down so investigators could work. Sotelo was unsure of its status as of Monday afternoon.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was also dispatched to the scene. Eric Olsen, the communications director at the Utah Labor Commission, was unable to comment on the investigation.
He said Utah OSHA is aware of the accident and is investigating.
