City Hall has published a schedule assigning interview times for the 13 Park City Council hopefuls, indicating that the candidates will be questioned in 30-minute intervals over a two-day span on Monday and Tuesday.

Mayor Dana Williams and the sitting City Councilors will conduct the interviews in anticipation of selecting one of the 13 to serve the remainder of the late Candy Erickson’s term. The term ends in early January, meaning that the person who is selected would be required to campaign in this fall’s election if they want to bid for a full four-year term.

The schedule of interviews is:

Monday:

  • Andy Beerman, 2 p.m.
  • Julia Pettit, 2:30 p.m.
  • Mary Cook, 3 p.m.
  • Timothy Preston, 3:30 p.m. Preston’s interview will be conducted over the phone or over Skype, an online service that allows video communication
  • Carolyn Frankenburg, 4 p.m.
  • Jim Weinberg, 4:30 p.m.

    Tuesday:

  • Richard Dan Portwood, 2 p.m.
  • Gabrielle “Lee” Caruso, 2:30 p.m.
  • Dick Peek, 3 p.m.
  • Stewart Gross, 3:30 p.m.
  • Kraig Moyes, 4 p.m.
  • Leslie Moss, 4:30 p.m.
  • John Stafsholt, 5 p.m.

    The interviews will be conducted during public meetings.

    The mayor said each of the candidates will be allowed to give a five-minute opening statement. Williams and the City Councilors will then ask their questions. The candidates will be allowed to deliver a closing statement after the questioning.

    The mayor said the interviews will be more important to the chances of the candidates who are not well known in government circles than they will be to the ones who are familiar.

    Williams said he anticipates the interviews will focus on philosophical issues related to government service rather than detailed issues City Hall faces. He said, though, he expects the candidates will be asked whether they intend to seek a full term during this year’s election. Some of them have indicated they would mount a campaign while others have said they would not.

    The City Council is scheduled to appoint one of the candidates at a meeting on April 21, two days after the final set of interviews.
